How to Change your Canvas Background
Last updated: October 17, 2026
The document viewer lets you change the look of the canvas behind a document while you review it. You can pick a background pattern and switch between a light and a dark canvas. Use this when you want clearer reference points for lining up content, or a lower-glare view for long review sessions.
Open a document in the viewer
- From the marketing projects list, open the project you want to review.
- Go to the project's documents.
- Open the document you want to review. It opens in the document viewer.
Change the canvas background
In the document viewer toolbar, find the canvas background control. It is a grid icon with a small dropdown arrow. Hover over it to see the current selection, such as "Canvas background: Dot grid, light".
Select the control to open the menu. It lists three patterns, and the one currently in use is marked as selected:
- Plain gives you a clean, distraction-free canvas with no pattern.
- Dot grid adds subtle reference points, which help when lining up marketing content. This is the default.
- Lined grid gives stronger structure, which is useful when you are checking alignment.
Choose a pattern and the canvas updates right away. To compare styles, reopen the menu and choose another one.
Switch to a dark canvas
At the bottom of the same menu is a Light/Dark switch. Turn it on to use a dark canvas for lower glare, and turn it off to go back to light. The switch is separate from the pattern, so you can combine any pattern with either tone. A dark canvas with a lined grid, for example, gives a comfortable view for detailed alignment checks.
Good to know
- The setting only changes how the canvas looks while you review. It does not change the document itself.
- The canvas background starts as a light dot grid each time you open a document in the viewer, so you may need to choose your preferred style again.
