How to Add FINRA API Credentials

Last updated: October 17, 2026

Connecting your firm's FINRA Gateway API credentials lets Hadrius import your Firm Profile directly from FINRA, so you don't have to enter it by hand. Use this article when you first set up the platform, when you add a firm that has no credential yet, or when you need to replace a credential that is about to expire. Before you start, make sure you have your firm's FINRA Gateway API client ID, client secret, and the credential's expiration date.

Open the Firms & FINRA page

  1. Go to Settings and open the Firms & FINRA section. Your firm's regulatory connections are managed here.
  2. The page lists your firms. Under them, the FINRA API credentials card shows the credentials for the firm you have selected. Click a firm in the list to select it.
  1. If the selected firm has no credentials yet, the card shows "No FINRA API credentials." Click Add API to open the connection form, which is titled "Automate your setup by connecting to FINRA."

Enter your credential details

  1. Permissions: Choose the FINRA data this credential is allowed to import. The options are U4, U5, and BR (branch registration). To import all three through one connection, select all of them. You must choose at least one.
  1. Client ID: Enter the client ID from your firm's FINRA Gateway API account. If you aren't sure where to find it, click the Where do I find my API credentials? link in the form.
  2. Client secret: Enter the client secret. The field is masked, so the value is never shown on screen.
  3. Expiration date: Enter the date your FINRA credential expires. The date cannot be in the past. The platform uses it to show when the credential needs to be renewed.
  4. Set as default credential: Tick this box if this should be the default credential. A firm's first credential is always set as the default, so the box is checked and locked in that case.

Save and test the connection

  1. Click Save & Test Connection. The button stays disabled until you have chosen permissions and filled in the client ID, client secret, and a valid expiration date.

Hadrius tests the connection with FINRA as soon as you save, so you'll know whether the credentials work before you leave the page. If the test succeeds, a confirmation message appears, the form closes, and you return to the Firms & FINRA page. The new credential and its summary are shown in the FINRA API credentials card. If the test fails, an error message explains what went wrong and the form stays open so you can fix the details and try again.

What happens next

Once the connection is in place, data starts syncing to your Hadrius environment and fills in the information linked to your firm's CRD profile. Keep an eye on the expiration date you entered. Before it passes, generate a new credential in FINRA Gateway and add it in Hadrius so the sync doesn't stop.
