How to Mark-Up a Document (& Delete the Mark-Ups)

Last updated: October 17, 2026

When you review a marketing piece in Hadrius, you can mark up the document itself, so the submitter sees your feedback right where it applies. This article shows how to add each type of mark-up: text comments, redline revisions, area comments, arrows and freeform drawings. It also covers how to restyle mark-ups and delete the ones you no longer need. Use these steps when you're reviewing a project that is still in its review workflow.

Open the document for review

  1. Go to Marketing Projects and open the project you want to review, such as an email sequence that is still in review.
  2. From the project overview, open the document.
  3. To get more room to read the content closely, click the "Fullscreen" button in the document toolbar.

Comment on specific text

  1. Highlight the text you want to flag, such as a greeting line.
  2. In the menu that appears above your selection, click "Add comment". This pins your feedback to the text you selected.
  3. In the "Add a comment" box, describe what needs to change, then click "Add comment". The comment stays attached to that exact spot so the submitter can find it.

Point to an element or comment on an area

The annotation toolbar has tools for feedback that isn't tied to a single line of text:

  • "Arrow tool" (shortcut A): Draws an arrow that points straight at a specific element on the page.
  • "Area comment" (shortcut R): Draw a box around a region, such as an image, a section or a bulleted list, and add a note to it. For example, you could ask the author to change the bullet style in a list.

Suggest replacement wording with a redline

A redline proposes the exact replacement text, which is more useful than a general note when you already know what the wording should be.

  1. Click "Select or modify annotation" (shortcut V or Esc) so you can select text again.
  2. Highlight the text you want to revise, such as a headline.
  3. In the selection menu, click "Comment with Redline".
  4. In the "Redline a revision" box, edit the text into your suggested wording. The box shows your changes next to the original. Then click "Add revision".

Saved revisions also appear in annotated exports of the document.

Draw freeform mark-ups

Use "Freeform draw" (shortcut P) to circle, underline or otherwise mark anything on the page. To set the color for new drawings before you start, use the "Drawing color" picker in the toolbar.

Manage, restyle, and delete mark-ups

When your mark-ups are in place, click "Exit fullscreen" to go back to the standard view. Every annotation appears in the comments panel, where you can review and manage it in one place.

  • Delete a mark-up: Find the mark-up in the comments panel and remove it there. You can also select a drawn annotation on the document and press Delete or Backspace.
  • Restyle a drawing: With the select tool active, click a drawn annotation (an area comment, arrow or freeform drawing) on the document. Use the style options that appear to change its line color. For example, switching it to red makes it stand out to the reviewer.

If you want an unmarked view of the document, use the "Hide drawings and comments" toggle in the toolbar to temporarily hide all mark-ups. Turn it back on to show them again.
