Updating User Role and Permissions
Last updated: July 1, 2026
If users are seeing incorrect dashboards or experiencing permission-related issues that don't match their assigned roles, there are several potential causes and solutions to consider.
Common Role Display Issues
Admin Role Not Displaying Correctly
If an admin user cannot switch between admin and employee views or is not seeing admin functionality:
Check that the admin role is properly assigned in the user management section
Try removing and re-adding the admin role to refresh the permissions
Have the user log out and log back in to ensure the role changes take effect
Inconsistent Dashboard Views
If different users with the same role are seeing different dashboard layouts or features:
This is often related to page refresh or caching issues
Ensure all users refresh their browsers or log out and back in
Check that all users have identical role assignments
Permission-Specific Issues
Missing Role Actions
If users cannot perform actions they should be able to (such as submitting materials or accessing certain features):
Note: Some roles (such as the default “Employee” role) may limited permissions enabled by default. If a user cannot see expected sections or features , verify that their assigned role has the necessary permissions turned on.
Verify the user's role has the correct permissions assigned
Confirm role actions are enabled for their role - some roles may have no permissions enabled by default and will need permissions turned on or the user may need an additional role assigned
When to Contact Support
Role permissions appear correct but users still can't access expected features
Multiple users are experiencing inconsistent dashboard views
Basic troubleshooting steps (refreshing, logging out/in) don't resolve the issue
When reporting permission issues, include screenshots of the user's current view and their role assignments to help support diagnose the problem quickly.
