WhatsApp Archiving Connection: Troubleshooting Best Practices

Last updated: August 5, 2026

If a WhatsApp account will not connect to Hadrius for archiving — the QR code will not scan, the connection stalls, or a previously connected account drops — work through the four steps below, in order, before contacting Hadrius support. Each step isolates a different, common cause of connection failures.

Step 1: Reinstall the official WhatsApp app

Uninstall and reinstall the official WhatsApp app from the App Store (iOS) or the Google Play Store (Android). Confirm the app is on the latest version available for the device. An outdated or partially corrupted WhatsApp install is one of the most common causes of a failed or unstable archiving connection.

Step 2: Install the latest OS updates

Check for and install the latest operating system updates on the phone that WhatsApp is linked to, for both iOS and Android. WhatsApp’s linked-device and multi-device functionality depends on current OS networking and security components, so a device running an outdated OS can prevent Hadrius from establishing a stable archiving connection even when the WhatsApp app itself is up to date.

Step 3: Wait 24 hours before trying again

If a connection attempt fails, wait 24 hours before attempting to connect again. Repeatedly generating and scanning a new QR code from Hadrius in a short window of

time — “spamming” the QR code — can trigger WhatsApp’s own rate limiting or security checks, which makes the underlying problem harder to diagnose and can extend the outage. Let a full 24 hours pass, then make a single, clean attempt to connect.

Step 4: Confirm official WhatsApp Web works on its own

Test whether the official WhatsApp Web works independently of Hadrius by going to web.whatsapp.com directly and attempting to link the account there. If the account links successfully at web.whatsapp.com, the issue is specific to the Hadrius archiving connection rather than the WhatsApp account or device. If linking also fails at web.whatsapp.com, the issue lies with the WhatsApp account or device itself, rather than with Hadrius.

When to contact Hadrius support.

If the archiving connection still will not establish after completing all four steps above, contact Hadrius support and share the result of the Step 4 test at web.whatsapp.com. That result helps the Hadrius engineering team narrow down whether the failure is on the WhatsApp side or the Hadrius side, and speeds up resolution.

These steps reflect current guidance from the Hadrius engineering team and are intended as a first line of troubleshooting; they may not resolve every connection issue.
